Okay guys hear me out as I come with an unpopular opinion: First let me just state that I agree with everyone who feels Miller has not fully lived up to expectation but over the last couple of years he has done well to get that average up to 40. Anyway, listen -
I feel we cannot do the same mistake with JP, a number 4 batsman who was mostly stuck at 6 and 7(Check his numbers). Yeap Miller was picked for his firepower and was seen as the guy who comes in finishes but he’s definitely not your Marco Marais who just comes in smashes.
With Hash, AB, JP gone and probably Faf soon to be gone, it’s time we get Miller in where he is most effective. 38 innings at 5 3 50s and 3 100s at an average of 48 and a SR of just above 100%. Surely these numbers are enough to convince the coaches to give Miller a shot at
5? Aren’t they? He is one of our senior batsmen and should not be batting at 6 or 7. He should be batting higher or not be in the team altogether. He has an average of around 36 at 6 and 7 and a SR above 100 at 6 and less at 7. His highest ODI score came batting at 5
The same mistake was done with JP, new players like Rilee coming in and slotting in at 4 while JP was there and deserving of the spot based in his numbers. I personally believe in picking players where they are most effective which is why you’ll never see me pick Kallis at 6
