I keep reading and re-reading #Sask's COVID school guidelines for the fall and magically hoping it will contain more useful information or supports for our teachers and students. There is embarrassingly little in this document:

Where are the guidelines for limiting the number of students per classroom? The entire pandemic we've been obsessive about group sizes and now we suddenly don't care during the anticipated second wave?
Are we really ok with continuing to jam kids onto packed school buses?

"Strive to minimize the number of different teachers and educational assistants that interact with groups of students throughout the day."
EA and other resources are stretched incredibly thin and out of necessity are assigned to several different students.

Where is the new money to ensure we have enough staff so they don't have to unnecessarily mix between classes and other groups? What does this mean for librarians or music/art/phys ed teachers who may interact with the entire student body throughout the day?

"Frequent and enhanced cleaning" is mentioned several times, as are the expectations that schools need to supply adequate hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes. I did not see an accompanying announcement that this would come with funding to actually make this happen.

From which budget will all this additional janitorial staff and supplies come??

For people looking for reassurance and practical guidance, I think this plan came up short. I'm hoping at least some of these concerns will be addressed in the coming weeks.

Post script(s?) - previously, my twitter mentions have been full of people defending the delayed opening of child-centric activities because kids are supposedly germy little vectors of asymptomatic spread. But now 'kids don't get sick and everything will be fine.'
Pick. A. Side.
