Wenger's man management was top notch. Up there with SAF's. Every player cannot give the same intensity in training. There are good trainers, and there are bad ones. Theirry Henry was not a particularly good trainer, Viera was a bad one too.
Some players just need to step on the pitch and do their thing, like Ozil. Others like Sanchez consistently needs to keep the fire of intensity burning even in training.
I remember one interview Aaron Ramsey did pointing to how special Wenger treats Ozil. Some may argue Sanchez was Arsenal's best player in that era, but Ozil got far more special treatment. It was required to get the best out of him. Similar to what Fergie did with Cantona.
It worked, for a very large part of Ozil's early time at Arsenal. It was no coincidence Ozil remained the only player to perform at a top level in Wenger's last season.
Treatment from successive coaches demanding the same level of commitment from Ozil in training or get dropped is good in the grand scheme of things, but it is hurting Arsenal more than it us hurting Ozil.
Ozil remains the only midfielder that can create and influence play in the final third for Arsenal. Not players like Joe Willock or Guendouzi. Ozil's talent is so natural, and pure. He doesn't need to do hard work, get stuck in to perform at a high level.
No doubt he is aging, but performances like today against Brighton where the midfield looked so flaccid without any creativity, excuses to drop Ozil can no longer hold water.
Performances like today will continue, where teams sit back, and hope for a chance to hit us. Willock or Guendouzi cannot give that final ball to unlock defences. And Arsenal need to find a way to make Ozil perform for their sake. Arsenal need him more than he needs them.
At least until the end of the season. Dropping Ozil is not an option until you find a proper replacement.
