I"ve been thinking a lot lately about Beth Moore's recent comment that Jesus should be declared a "missing person." It seems that the teachings of Jesus are looked upon as either "for an ideal world" or for women and "sissies." I rarely hear sermons on Jesus' commandments.
POTUS has openly mocked the commandments of Jesus- at the National Prayer Breakfast and in a rally in S.C.- Yet, his Christian followers have been silent while their Lord is mocked. They have a strong felt need for a trash-talking strongman- a Goliath or a Jehu.
These days I keep hearing the words, "Give us Barabas." The silent, bleeding Jesus is an embarrassment when you are at war. His teachings- love your enemies, turn the other cheek-only apply to individual situations not the battle against secularism and liberalism.
In the words of a popular pastor, they "looked for a fighter—someone who saw the challenge for what it was, the fight of our lifetime." He went on to say, "Men who never see a single day on the battlefield will never understand the bloody nature of an actual fight."
Over and over in history, Christians have had to learn that the advancement of the Kingdom can't be accomplished by hiring the mafia. The silent, bleeding Jesus IS the warfare against the shadows. When you fight the darkness with darkness, the darkness only grows stronger.
