When you use equality as a form of measurement, you are saying that a difference between two things is the relevant measure.

Equality is very relevant measure in terms of treatment of people under the law, but it is not for wealth or income...
...particularly if you have different inputs, as well as freedom and are not trying to divide up a static amount (like under a dictatorship)....
People in an area could all be rich but have highly wildly differing amounts of wealth (millionaires vs. billionaires) or all could be very equal in wealth and all in poverty (everyone has no retained wealth). Certainly the unequal first scenario is preferred to the latter...
People who make a million dollars a year & spend it all can have no net worth while those who make the same amount, save & invest it could be worth tens of millions over several decades. That’s a ton of inequality- no net worth vs. multi-millionaires- but the story gives context.
Poverty is a problem, and a problem worth discussing and solving, but it is not a problem of not being equal in a free society. “Equal in poverty” is not an objective to pursue.
Inequality porn is a ruse used by media, politicians and others to create class resentment and leverage envy politics for their own power. Focus on the actual problem-- poverty, not inequality.
