Who from Newfoundland grew up in a house with a front door that was never used or maybe didn’t even have any front steps to it? This wasn’t common in Carbonear but when we went into Victoria and Salmon Cove, lots of houses were like this. Only the back door was ever used.

We only used the front door & if someone went to the back door & rang the bell (different chime than the front door) Mom said “who in the world is at the back door? I’m not answering it if they don’t go around to the right door!” There was an element of surprise every time. LOL

What are your thoughts on why this was/is the case? I’m curious to hear
