While I have appreciated many of the “anti-racist” book list that have been circulating around, I’ve wondered if they could potentially do more harm than good.
If one doesn’t have a theological framework for race, racial justice, and racial reconciliation, it will be nearly impossible to engage with these resources in a way that is helpful.
If leaders have never “equipped the saints for the work of ministry” in this specific area, then some of these book list have the potential to lead people down some strange doctrinal trails.
It low key reminds me of the “cage stage Calvinists”.
It’s a reminder that discipleship and being discipled in areas of justice and righteousness is needed. It seems like giving someone a “curriculum” escapes the hard work of walking alongside of others over the long haul. It also assumes that more knowledge is the answer.
I strongly desire the church to grow out of its “cross-cultural infancy” (Thanks Rev. Duke Kwon), but I’m also am concerned that the church will be “tossed too and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14)
This is partly why I’m such a fan of @Irwyn and his work with @ICCMDC. They, with others, are doing the hard work of giving the church the theological resources she needs to address the issues of our day!
