Deepika Padukone was a victim of depression. She had been diagnosed with it during the peak of her career in 2014, & smiled through all of it before going public in 2015 with her struggle & how she overcame it. A reminder that no matter the circumstance depression spares no one.
After being diagnosed with depression and overcoming it, Deepika Padukone decided it wasn’t enough seeing the stigma around mental health. From there begin a new journey in her life, where she launched a non profit foundation called “ Live Love Laugh “ helping fellow victims.
Deepika Padukone’s foundation funds many projects and hosts free health camps. They provide counselling and therapy for the underprivileged and training to the nurses of other NGOs.
Deepika Padukone’s foundation focuses on mental health for not just adults but also children. Kids are supposed to be happy & playful 24x7 but they also can go through many mental health problems due to school work & bad parenting. The foundation takes this into consideration.
Deepika Padukone has been recognised internationally several times for her work on mental health, by Prestigious magazines and newspapers like The New York Times and Harper’s Bazaar because of the amount of people she has helped through her foundation @TLLLFoundation
Deepika Padukone was ranked as one of the most influential people in the world in 2018 by the prestigious TIME Magazine for her contribution to mental health, & the amount of people she has helped GLOBALLY not just Indians.She makes a toast to all her fellow victims in the video.
Deepika Padukone launched a new charity initiative in 2019 called “ The Deepika Padukone Closet “ where she sells clothes from her wardrobe at a cheaper price than she bought them and all the funds made go to help mental health victims.
Deepika Padukone and her foundation also started a #NotAshamed campaign to make victims come forward with their stories and making them feel free to share it. Reducing the stigma around mental health so society learns how common it really is.
Deepika Padukone’s foundation was awarded with the Dr. Guislain award for the amazing work they have done. Deepika Padukone in 2020 was called at the World Economic Forum to receive the Crystal Award for being the very few mental health activists in India.
In the words of Deepika Padukone “ It’s my mission in life, I’ll not be able to rest, unless we, as a country, stop attaching stigma around mental health. “
