Here’s the million-dollar question: what were Geoffrey Berman and SDNY about to do?

Whatever it was, it was so bad that Barr brazenly lied and said Berman would resign—likely knowing Berman wouldn’t—at 10:00 pm on a Friday night to get him out of there. Something is going down.
NY Times recently reported investigations into Jeffrey Epstein’s finances could lead to federal and state action by regulators and law enforcement as soon as this month.
The Senate Intel Committee is on the precipice of releasing a counterintelligence investigation into 2016 Election Interference. Don Jr. was subpoenaed for this and only talked when they narrowed topics down. He met with foreigners in NY in 2016, and could be charged.
Trump’s Deutsche Bank records have been sought by Congress and NY State Prosecutors; it’s possible SDNY has quietly sought them as well.

SCOTUS is about to decide whether anyone can get those records while Trump is POTUS.
Berman was investigating Rudy Giuliani for money laundering and other crimes relating to his involvement with corruption in Ukraine. Paul Manafort was indicted and convicted in DC and VA for similar crimes.
Sam Patten, a Republican donor who worked on Trump’s campaign, pleaded guilty and cooperated with investigators on financial questions about Trump’s inaugural committee. It raised more money than any in history and we’ve received almost no details on what he told investigators.
