If you feed the mob, it continues to grow. Books are being banned, statues of Grant are being torn down, and people are being punished left and right for wrong-think. Feels like a crossroads and we are at-risk of giving up the ideals that made America special.
America has often failed to live up to those ideals or apply them equally, but they were a guiding light. It’s rather apparent that many activists today, including in the press, don’t understand that. They view a failure to live up to them as a reason to abandon them altogether.
The most important part of MLK Jr’s “I have a dream speech” isn’t the part about the dream itself, but his demand that America live up to the promissory note created by the “magnificent words of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence”
So it’s about time that Americans decide and speak up if we are going to continue to try to live up to those words or just abandon them in favor of a censored society that limits liberty and punishes any deviation via mob action.
