Recreating this from March in my temp account:

Some facts for the MAGA crowd who keep comparing the Obama/Biden H1N1 response in 2009-10 to Covid-19 in 2019-20.

The CDC estimates the flu kills 12,000 to 61,000 Americans per year.

Here is a timeline of what happened under Obama:

Obama inaugurated in Jan of 2009 amidst the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression 80 years earlier. It was grim.

The first H1N1 case in the US was ID'd in mid April of 2009

2/10
HHS declares a public health emergency on April 26, 2009 despite only a handful of cases in the US.

Within 30 days of that first case, over 1 million Americans had been tested for H1N1. It took around 70 days for the US under Trump to reach 1 million tested.

3/10
Obama declares H1N1 to be a national emergency in October of 2009.

By the time H1N1 ran its course over 13 months, over 12,000 Americans had died. The fact that Obama/Biden took early decisive action kept the death toll on the very low end of annual flu deaths (12K to 61K)

For market watchers: the Dow closed at 7,749.81 the day before HHS declared the public health emergency.

One year later, in April of 2010 when H1N1 ran its course, the Dow closed at 11,005.97, a gain of 42% in 13 months.

Proper prep & handling did not tank economy

Meanwhile, in the US, Donny was warned about Covid-19 in December & either did nothing or actively suppressed attempts to prepare. Because of this, the stock market has plunged, 40 million filed for unemployment and we're nearly in a Depression, if not already there.

6/10
In summary, despite inheriting a near Depression economy from Bush, Obama & Biden managed to handle H1N1 smoothly & smartly & the economy took off in 2010 because they did what was needed in 2009.

7/10
Donny has been in office for 3 1/4 years & has surrendered in the fight vs Covid-19 after blindly & corruptly flailing out & blaming everybody else but himself. He should look in the mirror.
