We reduced our home’s energy consumption and carbon emissions by more than 70% and pay 60% less for our energy. But our Energy Performance Certificate is still exactly the same. Here’s what’s wrong with EPCs. @FORESIGHTdk https://foresightdk.com/energy-performance-certificates-hold-back-heat-decarbonisation/
According to the EPC our running costs are £1,687 per year. We pay about £450.
Here’s the EPC of our neighbour’s house. It’s exactly the same type of house (see picture) but with gas boiler and less insulation. Crazy.
How can we expect people to make rational decisions that deliver real carbon savings when we’ve got this so wrong?
EPCs are based on an outdated model using incorrect assumptions that are no longer fit for purpose. We can do so much better.
