2 years ago today, I was on a #Vennbahn biking trip across Germany - Belgium - Luxembourg. The trip had many drama. Like when my bike was broken in the middle of nowhere, and came over to a creepy village 🚲 👻
FYI, #Vennbahn used to be a train track during World War I - II to transport coal & iron. They recently transformed the track across Germany - Belgium - Luxembourg into a cross country biking track. So you can imagine, the line went across wilderness, farms & villages...
So, when my bike tire was broken in the middle of forest, I panicked. I rode my broken bike for 10 KM, while my sister's dad looked for a repair shop. We found this little (seemingly) empty village. I saw nobody & it freaked me out. I had The Village (2004) movie in my head 👀
Thanks to Gmaps we found a cottage up the hill and spent a night. We fixed my tire by borrowed tools, then we biked to a small German village: Monschau. We had a dinner in a small retro diner, visited a cute shop of rubber ducks, and had a gr8 coffee at a coffee shop est. 1862 👌🏾
After Monschau, we continued our trip and stopped by Worriken to camp overnight there. It's a great place to stop by during your #Vennbahn trip. My stay was great bcs I had Catcher in the Rye & my journal with me 📚
It felt like freedom. Oh, I miss being outdoor so much. (🎤 Sammy Davis Jr. - I've Gotta Be Me 🎶)
After 125 KM of #Vennbahn + more than 25 KM of going back and forth to checkpoints, we finally arrived at Troisvierges, Luxembourg! 🇱🇺 My feet and body were all sore, but it's all worth it. I hope when this pandemic ends, I can ride there again.
