Definitely make time to listen to @MatthewdAncona podcast giving the inside story on how we were governed during Johnson’s personal struggle with the virus. It will challenge some preconceptions as well as confirm some https://overcast.fm/+VWTcI9JPU
Johnson having picked his cabinet for loyalty rather than skill comes thru loud & clear. Absence of heavy weight figures able to shoulder burden of govt while Johnson was incapacitated is scarily evident.
That said, Hancock doesn’t come out of it too badly, having been the loudest voice for lockdown at a time when Johnson dithered. Sunak appears to have benefited hugely from being able to flick the switch on Javid’s “oven ready” plans for a no deal Brexit.
It’s also apparent Johnson is not pushing for a relaxation of lockdown. Quite the reverse. That push is coming from Sunak & British business, which is facing mass job losses & bankruptcies.
Detail about no.10 not having a personal doctor on hand is shocking to me. When Johnson first got ill it appears our PM was left to bumble along without day to day medical care & by the time he was rushed to hospital needed oxygen in the car.
