Declaration:

1. I firmly believe that feminism is the most important human rights movement of all, because sexed based oppression is the most consistent, pervasive oppression of all. Women are half of humanity and there is no country on earth, nor ever has been, where 1/5
we are fully equal to men. Moreover, every form of oppression intersects with sex based oppression, and male supremacy plays a major part in every form of oppression. Masculinity fuels homophobia, racism, social inequality, imperialism, the destruction of our planet etc. 2/5
2. I firmly believe that trans rights activism in its current shape is the biggest threat I’ve ever seen to feminism and women’s rights. Not only does it erase sex as a political category in general and hence our ability to name and fight against sex based oppression. 3/5
It specifically targets women in doing so: in its fight against transphobia it doesn’t attack patriarchal gender norms or toxic masculinity, but women’s right to maintain our boundaries, organisations, spaces and even our very definition. 4/5
This is why I (and I suspect so many of us) am so obsessed with this subject. Apart from this all being so mind-bogglingly insane (clownfish!) it is simply the biggest human rights issue in my lifetime. 5/5
