1. Twitter banning Katie Hopkins has put the issue of de-platforming bk in headlines so I thought I would share this recent interview with Kevin MacDonald In Tablet mag which begins with a very eloquent defence of freedom of speech & liberal pluralism https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/kevin-macdonald-american-anti-semitism
4. Not sure censorship correct means towards creating a more harmonious society

‘Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth, "rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white spoke from my skull, I dreamed....Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.’
5. ‘Liberals’ who state they value ‘openness’ nodding along to current wave of authoritarianism marked by moral absolutism about the past & denialism re slippery slope principle in the present v.much give off a “it was necessary to burn down the village in order to save it’ vibe.
6. Very quick reminder that if you only defend the freedom of speech of ppl you agree with and only defend liberal pluralism when it threatens things you value then you dont really believe in either freedom of speech or liberal pluralism, you are merely paying lip-service.
7. This isnt really about Katie Hopkins its about the principle of freedom of speech and the associated values of liberal pluralism. We are in the process of throwing them in the dust-bin of history in the mistaken belief that this will make our societies more harmonious, it wont
8. Some people argue that liberal pluralism doesnt work, that it is antithetical to human nature. I wouldnt argue that it works so much as argue that it is the only thing that can work. Utopian realism, if you like. There is no alternative to liberal pluralism.
9. Well, there is an alternative. That alternative is perpetual human conflict between different groups, a conflict seen by each of those groups as zero-sum. That is your alternative.

11. Research conducted into this type of thing indicates that greater support for freedom of speech is a sign of higher intelligence but yet its the well-educated who appear to be at the fore-front of campaigns to de-platform, bowdlerise & censor https://twitter.com/DegenRolf/status/1236991859991498752?s=20
12. Its a paradox, certainly. People who are higher in cognitive ability tend to be more supportive of freedom of speech but yet its the well-educated, in the main, who appear to be at the fore-front of campaigns to restrict speech. What gives? https://twitter.com/SteveStuWill/status/1260350683074588672?s=20
13. People who are higher in cognitive ability tend to be more supportive of freedom of speech but yet, at the same time, this type of thing seems to be more and more common in academia-land https://twitter.com/doctorbenzene/status/1268803738036125696?s=20
