The Hakka & other groups which have been living in established villages in HK before 1898, enjoy privileges including the right for "small house" 丁屋, and having their own representative body "Heung Yee Kuk" 鄉議局. They are not expelled as the quoted thread claimed.

Most of those who fled from mainland China after the foundation of PRC are workers and farmers. My grandparents are an example, they had literally nothing in their pockets when arrived HK, and they were still living in public housing before they passed away.
