So I love that my social media feeds lately have turned into hubs of education and learning about antiracism and justice. I get that it can be overwhelming, though, like drinking from a fire hose. So I made some flow charts to help you find the right starting point for you:
Definitely think of these as starter kits and not exhaustive lists. And bear in mind that these things were all written/produced/created with different audiences in mind.
Here’s a flowchart for some faith-based resources. (Mostly Christian, since that’s my spiritual community) These can be pretty helpful at starting the conversation with people who share the same spiritual commitments I do.
One of the biggest frustrations with how I learned about abolition and Civil Rights in school was the fact that they were presented as completed missions rather than works in progress. I especially appreciate James Baldwin for challenging that.
Systemic racism is the topic at the heart of these protests. I’ve found so many of these resources on incarceration and law enforcement to be eye opening.
My main work revolves around promoting a vision of sustainability, one that isn’t complete without environmental racial justice.
As workplaces, schools, and institutions are in the process of asking themselves how they can do better, these resources are great starting points.
I also included a chart of Black Joy, since it’s also such an important act of resistance against racism. There may be fun stuff on here like Wakanda, but they’re here on purpose because of the vision they present.
