Seeing Angela Davis truly out here, once again, as a teacher/organizer/active participant in the movement alongside two generations after her own is glorious. She’s walking beside, not above, us.

I love it so much. https://twitter.com/aziaticblack/status/1274058966905962496
People have been replying, saying it’s sad to see her still fighting this fight...

...but I want y’all to understand that this will be us, too. This fight will be life long. Every single day, we have to push the needle. There is no rest, not a fight like this. She knows this.
Once you dedicate your life to fighting for you and your people, it’s a fight to the death. No matter how big or small the battles, and no matter when your time comes to show up and show out.

This is it. This is the work.
This is why it is dire that we educate, lead, organize, create, heal, and love as often and as particularly possible. From the children to our elders. Each generation has to pass the template to the next, and allow them to adjust it for the times, but THIS IS IT.
It’s unfortunate af, but we’re here. We will be here, guided by our past, motivated by our future, building in our present. Yes, we must acknowledge how painful this is. We must always speak and nurture each other when our heart aches at this racial plague of perpetual violence.
But once we’ve done that, we have to take ownership of our duty to shape this world how we want to see it, and understand what it’s going to take to do so. As human beings, PERIOD, we should be doing this. All of us. Adament on change.
Dr. Angela Davis knows this. She knows and she is prepared and active in continuing the work. There is no rest. Not yet. I’m learning more and more everyday.

And even though this is true, that doesn’t mean we cannot find pockets of time to rest. To love. To laugh. To BE.
But putting it all down? Nah. The work is forever. Even when we think it’s over, we have to continue maintaining it all. Maintenance is work. Culture and tradition shifting not just communities but SYSTEMS... is work.

We must be in this together. All the way, in all ways.
