Our enemy--the one that is posed to destroy our system of government--is brazen. They revel in scorched earth tactics. They are unsentimental about the law, tradition or "standards." And they have been rewarded by opponents who hesitate, who are "institutionalists,"...
who are reliant on memories of what process used to be or who feel that their aggrieved rhetoric somehow has an effect on their conscienceless, corrupt, ruthless opponents. Until our enemy faces a foe as tough, as relentless, as bold, as remorseless...
...or as committed to preserving our system as they are to bending it to serve their interests and those of their sponsors at home and in hostile capitals abroad, then they will continue to defeat us, damage what is precious, put the very idea of America at risk.
Mueller was not up to the job. No other prosecutor was up to the job. Democratic leaders to date have not been up to the job. This is not about their intentions or the quality of their characters. It is about rising to address the specific the threats we face.
We must act now. We must use every tool at our disposal. Every like-minded actor within the government must step up and reject further capitulation to these malevolent, well-organized, unflinching opponents of the rule of law in our country.
We must crush the GOP in the election, remove the protection of the Senate, restore the judiciary. And a new administration must enumerate the crimes of Trump and Barr and McConnell and they must hold them to account. To do otherwise is to invite their resurgence.
Letting bygones be bygones will be certain prelude to the fulfillment of the dark and disastrous agenda of this immoral, dishonorable, vile cabal. There is no neat and comfortable way to put an end to them. They must feel the full force of the legal system they tried to gut.
Either that or we will lament for generations the loss of what made this country great-imperfect no doubt-but great in spite of its flaws, great because we had the means to constantly seek to perfect that system and ourselves. But those means will be gone & America will be lost.
