THREAD ALERT.
.
This is what racism can look like.
.
Me: After a guelling week, I sat on the courtyard bench beside my building under the night sky. Needed some quiet reflection and peace.
.
Her: Do YOU live here you Black b*tch? Get the fuck outta here!!!

Her: Do YOU live here you Black b*tch? Get the fuck outta here!!!
Me: (Wasn't even shocked. Told her to leave me alone. Kept calm, alert and had a friend on the phone so continued my convo and didn't budge.)
.
Her: (Irritated by my calm. She came at me 3 times over the course of about 20 minutes. "YOU f*cking Blacks!")

Me: (The week has been so damn exhausting that I literally sat and thought, this actually NOT the worst part of my week. Can you believe that? Then thought, I'm really glad my kids aren't here. Then wow, how blatant, bold & entitled. Then thought, I'll be damned if I move. NOPE.)
Her: (More racist remarks, intimidating and offensive body language.)
.
Me: (Nope. Not today. Nope. You don't get to tell me where I get to take up space today. NOPE. Wrong chick today. NOOOOOOPE.)
.
Her: (Stomps off & slams door to her building.)

Me: (Thankful that I felt safe... enough. Grateful for my white ally on the phone. Feel privileged that I have the comfort & confidence to even stand my ground. Many Black folks aren't so lucky. Some aren't only assaulted with words. Some never walk away safely as I did.)
Folks: I was born right here in Toronto, Canada
Racism isn't new to me. Been Black my whole damn life. In case you missed the memo: racism is on a different level right now. We have to decide who we want to be as a society. And it better damn well be better than this. Gnite
