INBOX: Trump to nominate the chairman of the SEC as the new U.S. attorney for SDNY.
Nomination at an uncomfortable time: One of Bolton’s most explosive allegations was that Trump once assured Turkey’s Erdogan he would stock SDNY with loyalists to help do him a political favor.
From the NYT review of Bolton’s book:
Weirder still: Geoff Berman, the current US attorney for SDNY is leaving immediately and the New Jersey U.S. attorney Craig Carpentino is taking over on an acting basis, pending Clayton’s confirmation.

That’s not normally how these transitions work.
There’s a full-blown crisis in the Justice Department tonight. https://twitter.com/sdnynews/status/1274178732476059650?s=21 https://twitter.com/sdnynews/status/1274178732476059650
NADLER invites Berman to testify Wednesday, when other DOJ officials were already slated to testify about political interference inside DOJ. https://twitter.com/repjerrynadler/status/1274185092110454785?s=21 https://twitter.com/repjerrynadler/status/1274185092110454785
Hard to fathom what’s happening inside DOJ. In recent months

-Prosecutors quit Stone case after Barr intervened
-Prosecutor quit Flynn case after Barr intervened
-SDNY chief refused to quit after Barr tried to remove
-2 sitting officials agree to testify about Barr interference
GILLIBRAND, like Schumer, comes out against Clayton's nomination as the new U.S. attorney for SDNY, meaning that if Graham sticky by his pledge to honor blue slips, Clayton will not be considered.
