It took me quite a while to start running a full node. I am going to write this in the hopes of attracting noobs, shitcoiners and OGs alike.
Feel free to pick on me, or learn why you should get involved. The truth is important, because some may have hid behind LARPing before.
👇
I was your typical 2017er.
Signed up on Coinbase, dumped some savings into BTC and it dropped soon after. I was not too phased though, I knew it might swing back not long after. I kept stacking soon after as it hit 20k.
The app had both ETH and LTC
So I mini stacked them too
👇
Buying a full coin of something was very convincing. When the bitcoin fee network was under attack, I spent what felt like $19 AUD to withdraw my funds. Coinspot in Australia lost banking support, my faith was getting shattered. But I was still super bullish.
👇
I had started shifting coins via wallets as early as a few weeks, because coinbase did not support aussie sales, and getting consumed In Andreas Antonopolous videos. The trigger was him talking about a Trezor on Joe Rogan show.
So I withdrew from exchanges pretty early.
👇
The following months involved heaps of shitcoin stacking. I learnt heaps. Wallet types, wallet tricks, even the EOS snapshot was damn hard. I still stacked bitcoin when it crashed, but strickly avoided ICOs. Wrong side of the peak and just didn't get any of them.
👇
I focused on averaging down my buys to balance my losses. Lost faith in many, but selling was giving up. I worked on learning hardware wallets, and devising ways to secure my seeds. Paper backups, storage etc. Fireproofing and waterproofing.
I began to love epic crashes by now.
After heavy losses in shitcoins. I began to look into the shitcoins.
24h traded volumes was tiny. Transactions per block were tiny.
Hashrate security was tiny.
Interest was tiny.
Nobody cared about them, people only wanted the next epic pump.
Alt Szn kept people trapped.
👇
After this, Bitcoin became my primary focus, because we are herd animals. New theories in blockchain tech didn't matter as much as the excitement in the crowd when bitcoin moved. Everybody was watching bitcoin. Thats what people fight over. Every wallet and exchange had it.
👇
Now that I had a clear path, I focused my education with books and podcasts, and let youtube slip a bit. You tube no longer tought me new things. It was time to help the network, but I had one big typical problem. I dont know linux, I work on windows PCs. I had no idea.
I tossed up laptops or basic towers, but found a NUC with the help of a friend, I built it, and started to run bitcoin core 0.18.1. Then Peter McCormack tweeted about nodes too. It took 7 days do sync, it was cool. I was part of the game. But I must admit, it just sat there.
👇
I didnt know what to do with it. I could not scan the network like I thought, I was too scared to send coins to it, It didn't have seed words like the others, plus I had not idea if I was just receiving or forwarding transactions. No videos online deep dived this wallet.
👇
This part needs work, to help people run core and get some value out of it, because I still cannot find good content on it. How do I check my existing coins myself. I am not a coder, I have no clue, many of the options had no info bars to help me know what I was clicking.
👇
After much greavence, I decided a Rasberry pi might be my only option. After influence from Ben Perrin and Stephan Livera, I saw that the mynode setup might be what I needed to bypass learning linux. I was saving like hell to fly to San Francisco, but covid changed all that.
👇
So that brings me to the recent days, ordering Rasberry pi parts, building it and syncing the blockchain on mynode was heaps easier and now I have more visual and informational feedback. I have much to learn, but while I feel like a slow starter, I think I am way ahead others.
So come forward, ask questions of me, ask questions why you might not have run a node yet.
By all means discuss your own gripes or new discoveries.
Lets not hide in the dark.
@parman_the I forgot to tag the one person this was directed at. Lol. 15 tweets can do that.
