1) don't wait for other people to educate you on trans and other issues when you 'make a mistake'. do your research before anything else; it is not that hard.
2) on top of trans rights, there are countless more hugely important world issues right now, from climate change to systemic racism to mass poverty across the entire planet. if you feel overwhelmed by it, good. that's how you know something needs to be done.
you can start to fight against all of this with activism including organised protests, petitions, & donations to campaigns/groups fighting against these issues. if you don't know where to start, start anywhere. ask a friend, find an online group, or make one yourself. just start.
you can also organise for change in your local communities and resist intolerance in your hobbies, place of education, work, etc. the current smashuk sham distracts from the fact that we have so many excellent, inclusive micro-communities that you can always seek out and support.
3) don't allow yourself to be distracted by petty & divisive battles that shift attention away from the actual issues we're facing. the current mess is only important insofar as it stems from a consistent feeling from people in our community that they are unsafe & unwelcome.
*that* is what needs to change - and it won't come from a ridiculous anonymous t.o. group, nor from the banning or unbanning of two toxic people, but from your own, constant efforts to resist harassment and discrimination wherever it appars.
4) never forget how important your voice is, nor how powerful it is when heard together with like-minded people. no matter how stacked things may feel against you, you have nothing to lose by doing everything you can to keep striving for a better world for yourself & others.
