Four years ago, @stanwawrinka faced Novak Djokovic in the Us Open final. Nole was the defending champion, the world number 1 and champion of two of the 3 slams played in 2016! Stan reached world number 3 and had a great run so far. Who would win? The first few games gave the tone
Djokovic stroke first, had 5-3 and serve to close it. Stan didn’t give up. Broke back and took it to a TB. Stan seemed to be improving as the match went on

But again as in the 1st, who broke first got broken back. Still, Novak has to serve to stay on the set. Wawrinka had a different ideia
Wawrinka broke and took the 2nd set 6-4! It was now leveled.
Almost everything was now working for Stan. His forehand, to me his weakest side, was moving Novak all around the court and his BH remained a spectacle of its own. From the baseline Stan was going for it

Now one of the strangest points you’ll see! Novak takes over the point forcing Stan to defend. Stan’s ball is closer to the line, Novak kinda stops playing, maybe hoping for a late call. The ball was well in, but his body language says it all. Stan loses focus, then he’s broken
All equal in the 3rd set. Still, look at Stan’s FH! Unbelievable speed and angles!

Wawrinka is now in charge. Now, the psychical issues begin to appear in Novak. He’s not serving as he was on the 1st, not moving as well! But still, look at this service game by Stan, he didn’t let Novak like the match again!
By the end of the 4th set Novak wasn’t well at all! Moving slowly and clearly feeling something as he calls the physio several times (One of the biggest polemics of this tournament and this final)! Still hold to be 3-5 at the 4th set.
The way Wawrinka sets up match point is absolutely legendary, there’s no stopping him now from winning his 3rd grand slam!
Stan Wawrinka is the newest Us Open champion! Demolishes Novak at the 2nd and 3rd sets after losing the 1st! Despite of Novak’s unfortunate injury in the 4th Stan improved his level and is now champion of 3 different grand slams! #StanTheMan
(1) 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3! Wawrinka is 100% in slams finals here, 3/3! Again he loses the 1st set against Novak but manages to increase his level, this time also with an unbelievable FH. His BH of course was always on fire, but his serve + FH and the slice return did the magic too!
Oof! My most complete thread! Hahah Hope that summed up alright this amazing match. Fan review now: Can’t believe how clutch Stan is. After losing the first set in which he played well he gets even better and demolishes Novak from the baseline in a HC! Impressive title!
