Arteta: “What we do today or in the next five weeks will have a big impact on what we have to do in the summer. We have to put a plan to improve our squad, that’s first, fulfil the ambitions that we have, have the right players to support the talented young players that we have.”
Arteta: “[Our talented youngsters] are still in the very early stages of their development and we have to know that, but we don’t have time. The demands of this football club are huge and we cannot stay still. We have to change things, we have to improve.”
Mikel Arteta on Lacazette (1/2): “Alex [Lacazette] is a player I always liked because of the type of striker he is, he can do a bit of everything. He’s very talented at combining and linking. His work rate and the way he competes for every ball, it’s rare to find in a striker.”
Mikel Arteta on Lacazette (2/2): “He had a lot of continuity with me but he had a spell when he was finding it difficult to score goals. We have two strikers and they have to fight for their places. I want that type of competition within the squad.”
Mikel Arteta on Nicolas Pepe (1/4): “It’s clear that his [Pepe] consistency has not been at the level he can produce. He’s the first to accept that. That’s what I’m going to demand of a player of his level and calibre.”
Mikel Arteta on Nicolas Pepe (2/4): “He has to be producing every three days at the level that he can be. He has to be a player that can make the difference, that is a threat, that generates fear in the opponent and gives us a big threat in the final third.”
Mikel Arteta on Nicolas Pepe (3/4): “His work rate has to be related as well with that kind of performance. He knows that. He’s such a nice kid. He’s trying really hard. You have to accept as well, the timing and the way he has adapted for the first year.”
Mikel Arteta on Nicolas Pepe (4/4): “He’s willing and I’m sure we’re going to get the best out of that. I’m convinced of that. It’s taking the flash moments into a consistent mode. That, for a creative wide player to do it, is a big task.
Mikel Arteta on Ainsley Maitland-Niles: “Ainsley needs to put his head down, work hard and show me every day in training he wants it more than anybody else and that he wants to play for this club and fight for his place.”
Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka (1/2): "He has qualities to play in two or three different positions and that’s a great thing to have in a player in our squad. Again, yesterday was another very tough game for him with the way things happened and when we went to 10 men"
Mikel Arteta on Bukayo Saka (2/2) "I think with Bukayo it’s part of his development and he needs to be able to adapt at different positions, and he’s very willing to do that"
