(A thread) the ruse of victimhood is embedded in its template based analysis. Anti-semitism, Islamophobia, the culture of martyrdom among many religious and national groups have become so powerful in presenting their arguments, while excluding the misfits,
who might dismantle their causes . The death of #SarahHegazy opened a chapter of thinking about such misfits. Her death is an act of agency that disrupted the monopolisation of torture and persecution claimed by the Islamists and the hardcore religious people in general.
regardless of the different contexts, but her story reminded me Coptic Christian novelist Waguih Ghali and other Copts who attempt or commit suicide. their death, their traumatic experiences, and their anxiety do not fit into the dominant victimhood narratives of the Copts.
That is, Copts are discriminated by Muslims. I also remembered a film by Al-Jazeera about an Islamist, who died in prison, and whose death was controversial. the narratives among imprisoned Islamists are usually accompanied by a masculine rhetoric that they would never cry.
or scream. In this regard, His fellows admitted that he would never commit suicide because he is a good believer, and that he was killed by the police. The language of victimhood negates agency,
and only give credit to those who fit into prescribed and well defined conditions of tortured bodies and souls.
