Many of you may not (or aren’t bothered/interested) but Power Rangers is adapted from a Japanese show called Super Sentai.

PR uses the Ranger & Monster suits from SS also the Monster & Zord fight footage.

I’m going to do a thread comparing the original to the adaptation below.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1 is adapted from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger and lasts for 60 episodes (originally was meant to be 40 eps but was expanded so Saban (creator of PR) requested Toei (creator of SS + other shows) to film new footage for an extra 20 eps aka “Zyu 2”.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S2 is adapted from Gosei Sentai Dairanger & has 52 eps.

S2 introduces the first American made Villian - Lord Zedd. 3 of the Rangers transfer their power to 3 newbies - Rocky, Adam + Aisha.

Also, S2 adapts the White Ranger costume from Dairanger.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S3 is adapted from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger & has 43 eps.

S3 introduces a new Pink Ranger by the name of Kat Hillard also 5 new Rangers, the Alien Rangers from the planet Aquitar.

The Kakuranger suits are used for the Alien Rangers.

Power Rangers Zeo is the 4th season, adapted from Chouriki Sentai Ohranger & starts adapting the Sentai properly (using the different Ranger suits)

A whole new set of villains are introduced - the Machine Empire & Jason (the OG Red Ranger) returns as the Zeo Gold Ranger.

Turbo is adapted from Gekisou Sentai Carranger.

This season introduces a new Blue Ranger: Justin, a new mentor: Dimitria, a new version of Alpha (Alpha 6) & 4 new Rangers.

Turbo nearly killed the franchise because it adapted a comedy Sentai & it didn’t mix with the seriousness.

PR in Space is adapted from Denji Sentai Megaranger.

4 of the Turbo Rangers + the Red Space Ranger: Andros travel across space to find Zordon while fighting Astronema.

This season also introduces Zhane, the Silver Ranger & the badass Psycho Rangers.

PRIS was nearly the end.

Lost Galaxy is the 7th season & is adapted from Seijuu Sentai Gingaman.

It introduces a whole new Ranger team, set of villains, worlds & stories (adapting the Super Sentai formula proper)

LG centres on the Galaxy Rangers vs. Trakeena.

Lightspeed Rescue is adapted from Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive.

5 people are chosen to defend Mariner Bay from demons.

Lightspeed Rescue introduces the first PR-Exclusive Ranger: the Titanium Ranger (the Sentai season LR is based on didn’t have a 6th member)

Time Force is adapted from Mirai Sentai Timeranger.

It centres on the Time Force Rangers vs. Ransik.

Wild Force celebrates 10 years & is adapted from Hyakujuu Sentai Goaranger (that celebrates 25 years of Super Sentai)

Wild Force centres on the battle between the Wild Force Rangers & the Orgs. It’s also the last season to be produced by Saban (he sold the rights to Disney)

Power Rangers is now being produced by Disney and filming is moved to New Zealand.

Ninja Storm is the 11th season & is adapted from Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger.

It centres on the Ninja Storm Rangers vs. Lothor.

Dino Thunder is up next and it’s based on Bakuryū Sentai Abaranger.

It’s the Dino Thunder Rangers vs. Mesogog. It also features the return of Tommy Oliver.

S.P.D. (Space Patrol Delta) is #13 and is adapted from Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger.

S.P.D. centres on the B-Squad who are chosen to be Rangers after the A-Squad disappear and must protect 2025 from Grumm.

Mystic Force is adapted Mahō Sentai Magiranger and centres on the Mystic Force vs. the forces of evil (or the “undead”) and no it’s not “Harry Potter Power Rangers”.

The 15th season is Operation Overdrive and it celebrates 15 years and is adapted from the 30th Super Sentai: GoGo Sentai Boukenger (which celebrates 30 years)

OO centres on the Overdrive Rangers vs. numerous villains.

Jungle Fury (my favourite) is adapted from Juken Sentai Gekiranger and centres on the Pai Zhua Academy/the Order of the Claw vs. Dai Shi and his monsters.

This season introduces 3 new PR-Exclusive Rangers - the Spirit Rangers.

Power Rangers RPM is the 17th & final Disney season (Saban bought the franchise back) and is adapted from Engine Sentai Go-Onger.

RPM is set in a post apocalyptic alternative world where the RPM Rangers (Ranger Series Operators) face off against Venjx.

Power Rangers Samurai & Super Samurai are the 18th & 19th seasons. They are adapted from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (not an adaptation but a direct translation of the Sentai)

It focuses on the Samurai Rangers vs. the Nighlok.

Megaforce is the 20th season and “celebrates” 20 years.

It’s adapted from Tensou Sentai Goseiger.

It centres on the Megaforce Rangers vs. numerous villains.

Super Megaforce is #21 and adapts the actual Anniversary stuff.

It’s adapted from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (the 35th anniversary season & my favourite)

It’s still the Megaforce Rangers but now they are fight an alien armada & the can morph into past Rangers via keys.

THE WORST!

Dino Charge & Dino Super Charge are the 22nd and 23rd seasons. They are adapted from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger.

Chip Lynn returns to the show as producer and writer. Dino Charge is good and Dino Super Charge is ok.

It centres on the Dino Charge Rangers vs. Sledge and his crew.

Seasons 24 and 25 are Ninja Steel and Super Ninja Steel (the 25th anniversary). They are adapted from Shuriken Sentai Ninninger.

Ninja Steel vs. Galaxy Warriors.

Kelson Henderson (a Power Rangers legend) returns as Mick.

Finally, Season 26 and 27 (Hasbro owns the franchise starting with S27) are Beast Morphers. They are adapted from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters (Hasbro went back and adapted a Sentai season that was originally skipped)

These seasons centres on Grid Battleforce vs. Evox.
