Dear Brampton Drivers,

Since many of you still haven’t learned your lesson after the tragic events that occured yesterday afternoon, here’s a thread of things you can do to stop driving like a maniac for everyone’s sake

(feel free to add things I may have missed):
First things first, there are these things known as speed limit signs plastered on every road. They are NOT optional nor are they a recommended speed. Follow what they say. A “Maximum 40 km/h” sign doesn’t mean you can go 80 km/h
Second, there is this great new feature implemented in cars made after 1935* called a TURN SIGNAL. It indicates to the drivers around you when and where you are turning. It too is not optional. USE YOUR TURN SIGNAL.
To add on, going in and out of lanes at high speeds and not indicating does not get you anywhere. I guarantee you will end up at the same lights as the people you decided to constantly cut-off and put in danger.
Third, tailgating someone is not going to make them go faster. If you can’t see the back wheels of the car infront of you or you can’t follow the 2 second rule, you’re too close. Back the fuck off.
Please, stay off your fucking phone. 99% of the time, it can wait. If it’s an emergency, turn your hazard warning and pull over. If your focus while driving is not 100% on the road then you shouldn’t be driving.
Also, if the lane you are in is ending, don’t fucking speed up the cut-off the car infront of you. That’s how accidents happen. You’re not in Fast & The Furious. Pay attention to street signs and merge lanes earlier.
Under what the traffic lights mean. Some of y’all seem to think Red, Yellow & Green lights all mean GO. It’s simple, Red means stop, Yellow means proceed with caution (stop if you can, don’t speed up and try to make it through if you know you can’t) & Green means Go.
For the love of god, turn into the closest lane. If you’re making a left turn - you go into the left most lane you don’t immediately turn 3 lanes down into the right lane and cut-off people making a right turn.
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT get behind the wheel if you are not able to drive. Driving while intoxicated or not feeling well is putting everyone around you in danger. Find a ride, call a cab or uber. It’s a cheaper & better option than a DUI and/or potential jail time.
Know your right of way. Disobeying right of way to try and drive recklessly and shave off a few seconds from your commute is NOT worth it. Late to work? Leave early. Scared to miss an appointment? Re-schedule. You should never have an excuse to drive like a maniac.
Hold those around you that drive recklessly accountable. Do not promote it on your social media accounts, do not compliment them for doing it. Just because your car can go 150 doesn’t mean you have to go 150.
If speeding is your thing and you want to drive in the GTA as if you’re playing GTA, go find a closed racetrack (they exist) where you aren’t putting other people’s lives in danger.
There are hundreds of things you can educate yourself on before getting behind a wheel. Don’t be forced to learn those things after you get a ticket or get into an accident, be PROACTIVE not REACTIVE.
