Adam said โ€œHan and Leia are too self-absorbed to really being attentive parents that (Ben) neededโ€
1. What backstory Adam created for Ben does not equal canon
2. This statement could be a Kylo perspective of the
situation, where he thinks Han and Leia were terrible parents
3. Thereโ€™s little specifically stated in canon so either way we donโ€™t have a whole lot from his childhood
4. I halfway agree with this statement (more of that later!)
Hereโ€™s the article for anyone who wants to read it. Thereโ€™s few others out there too https://twitter.com/starwars_direct/status/1273730877084839936

The sequel trilogy movies give us a few examples of why Han and Leia were good parents. The bigger moments are

Han:
- Literally sacrifices himself to try and help his son
- appears as a vision to Ben and ultimately turns
him back to the light
- takes in Rey within 30 minutes of meeting her and she sees him as a father figure

Leia:
- tells Han she wants her son back and that she has regrets on how they handled the situation now that they know what was going on
- keeps faith that Ben will turn
back to the light through most of the trilogy
- Sacrifices herself in one last effort to bring him back
- during her Jedi training she stopped training becasue she sensed the death of Ben when she completed it
Ben doesnโ€™t think they were bad parents:
- Killing Han becomes a weakness in TLJ and he chooses not to kill Leia
- Tells Rey that he didnโ€™t hate his father during the Swolo scene
- His parents are the ones who convince him to turn back to the light in the end
Kylo, in general, shows signs where heโ€™s struggling to stay dark, such as asking Vader to show him the power of the dark side and inflicting pain on himself during the duel on Starkiller Base

Growing up Ben adored his parents as well as Chewie, Lando and Luke. He felt comforted in their presence and was specifically enamored by his father often following him around and wanting to be a Pilot like Han
His favorite toy was the pair of gold dice that hung in the Cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. He on occasion would have dark tendancies and tended to cry more than normal in his infancy. By the age of 10 Han and Leia realized that they couldnโ€™t give him a normal
childhood and sent him to train with Luke where he was very skilled and devoted to the ways of the Jedi. He looked up to Luke.

Between Han and Leiaโ€™s busy jobs and them not knowing how to help him he felt deglected at times, but never is it stated that he hated them.
It should also be said that Leia, Han, and Luke all kept the secret of Vader from him which also caused some isolation and uncertainty in him.

Han and Leia grew up very independent from their parents. Han obviously wasnโ€™t close with his parents and by the age of 10 or 12 was living with the whiteworms, and Leiaโ€™s parents were very busy with the Senate and
Alderaan, so although they were close, Iโ€™m not sure if they were always there physically. I think they assumed that since they both grew up like this that Ben would be fine growing up in a similar way to Leia. They didnโ€™t know what was going on in his head and would have
changed how their lives were had they known or understood what was happening. Neither of them had any experience with raising a child strong in the force either, and Leia was just figuring out the whole thing for herself. Thatโ€™s why they sent him to Luke.

Han and Leia were not bad parents. I think that Palpatine was getting into Benโ€™s head before he was even born and kept planting fear, self doubt and anxiety into his head from a young age. I donโ€™t think Ben fully understood what was
going on and therefore Han and Leia for sure didnโ€™t know. Luke only found out when he confronted him seen in the TLJ flashback.

This is where Adamโ€™s quote comes in. I would interpret it to mean โ€˜maybe if they werenโ€™t so busy they might have figured it outโ€™ but I donโ€™t think
that means that they were bad parents. They didnโ€™t understand the force, they didnโ€™t know Palpatine was behind all his problems growing up, and it didnโ€™t help that they werenโ€™t physically there 100% of the time. I think even if they were there they wouldnโ€™t have known what to do.
Looking at it from their perspective in the ST, I can see that looking back they have a lot of regrets now knowing what their son was going through and still have hope that he can turn back and they can correct the things they did wrong. They also took Rey in and treated her as
A daughter and almost as a second chance to try again with someone with Light and Darkness in them.

Thereโ€™s also a prophecy in โ€˜Master and Apprenticeโ€™ that says โ€œShe who will be born to darkness will give birth to darknessโ€ so did Ben even have the ability to not turn dark?
Thereโ€™s also a group of Kylo fans that project their own problems they have with their parents on him and while I think this is valid, I donโ€™t see H&L being abusive to him in any form so I donโ€™t think itโ€™s accurate but still valid to interpret things how you want to I guess
Long story short they werenโ€™t bad parents and Iโ€™d love love love to see some happy Organa-Solo family content in the future even if itโ€™s AU/โ€œWhat Ifโ€ kind of stuff.
ALSO in preparation for this I wrote like 8 pages in Word so this is the very watered down version. Iโ€™m not 100% done editing etc so I might post that on here in screenshots or make a YouTube video or make a blog or something becasue I just have lots and lots of t h o u g h t s
Gif of me physically collapsing because I put too much effort into this
