I worked for @Westbeer for 6 months. I had mix experiences, and some may ask why did I stay at it... well it was job that was paying. I finally left when I managed to get job that secured me a contract and contracted hours. /1 https://twitter.com/westbeer/status/1273973285970219011
I worked for WEST for 6 months, I was never given a contract as it wasn’t available yet. We had few issues, if you failed clock in before the hour, you would automatically lose 15mins your wage time, this wasn’t helped with only one key to get to staff room, that was 3 floors up
We could have long shifts or short shifts, and were never guaranteed a stable amount of hours. We also were giving shifts of 5hr 30mins, so that breaks could be avoided at all cost. We also had wear shirt and tie in building with no HVAC system with temps over 25°C /3
We were giving notice of next weeks shifts majority the time on late Saturday or Sunday, with week starting Monday and no pattern to shifts, your life was left at what ever they wanted (you weren’t even guaranteed those hours)
I was once left with only 13 hours, and at £7.70 that was just £100, it was worrying thinking that if I worked whole month like that, I be going home with £400 (I was lucky I didn’t need cover rent!)
It was suggested we got a suggestion box to give ideas over, as was noted that was issue in communication. We got our box, someone asked about living wage. It lead to us getting post on FB from Petra.
Petra kindly informed us that we would need to go to her office during the day (and outside our working hours) to make the case of why the business should pay us a living wage. I sadly don’t have screenshots anymore.
It was melting pot at this time, with staff desperate for hours, and company doing a recruit drive. I managed to get another job but as I was leaving I decided with some my colleagues to go to @betterthanzero to demand better treatment for staff.
We could go into huge list, but WEST is good at it’s PR, you think they were amazing, that they are progressive, but they aren’t, even Wetherspoons before lockdown gave better wages and benefits to its staff than WEST.
Oh, and she once kindly sent us this in the FB group after telling us we need prove we were worth a LIVING wage 😉
I managed to find a copy of what Petra said when someone suggested “Living Wage”... remember at this point I wasn’t even given a contract as it wasn’t available yet and I had been working there for SIX months! 🤦🏻‍♂️
@BevyMingus @LynseyACraig cherry on the cake^

I have seen people saying that employees should just talk to her... 🙃
