THREAD
Advice from DE drops on Friday afternoon. Let's see what it says. (Should it defines as 'clear expectation is should be done')
- Y12 & Y14 return on 24/8 on a 'full time basis': so all pupils in, every day for those year groups?
- All other years by Sept - FT or PT?
2/
- 1m social distancing w/ 'protective bubble' up to Y10
- Y11-Y14 'without a protective bubble: does this mean they are 1m or 2m SD (like the adults)?
3/
- Explicit recognition that 1m is not practicable, and so reliant on 'protective bubble'? But what then about Y11-Y14?
4/
- Y11-Y14 'expected to adhere to social distancing' - again, is this 1m or 2m? - 'will not operate in protective bubbles'. What about a Y11 class of 25 in a small classroom?
5/ Is this recognition that the above will not be achievable in many local contexts? If it is, this is to be welcomed. The directives from EA must be realistic and achievable.
6/ Again, this seems to suggest that for Y11-Y14, with no protective bubbles in place, then the 1m rule does not apply? Does that mean it's 2m?
7/ That's enough for an initial thread, but it seems that:
- 1m SD up to Y10 w/ protective bubbles
- adults in school 2m as much as possible
- Y11-Y14 = no protective bubble, so what SD? 1 or 2m
- Attendance at least 50% of time, supported by blended learning.

Thoughts?
9/ Limiting movement
- Consideration given to supervision as teacher move. Yes, that's the obvious point we've been saying. But who will supervise if teachers are moving?
- Just redo the timetable? Not in the least bit practicable.
10/
- Soft changeovers? So a teacher lets a class of 25 out early, whilst the teacher in the class they are going to still has their class in. Where do the 25 go? In a dense line outside the classroom with no social distancing?
11/ Another reference to 6th form teaching, apparently allowing for a more significant use of home and/or flipped learning?
12/ Additional spaces
Even if such locations can be found, who is going to staff them? Will more funding from DE be available to bring in subs to do so? What about risk assessments and safe guarding in such locations?
13/ Repurposing of spaces within the school. Think creatively about how other existing spaces may be used.
14/ Staffing implications for staff shielding or living with people who are shielding.

Good to see that health-sensitive measures are being set in place for vulnerable staff. But this does mean that the above measures will have to be implemented with potentially fewer staff.
15/ What if you - or someone in your protective bubble - shows symptoms and/or tests positive?
- You: self isolate for 14 days
- Someone in your protective bubble: you all self isolate for 14 days

So expect major disruption as we enter flu season?
16/
In my context (14-18 senior high), anyone 'who has been in direct contact with the individual must self-isolate'.

Again, once flu season starts, expect disruption due to this.
17/ Pupils and attendance:
- Living with clinically vulnerable can attend school
- Pupil who is clinically vulnerable should not attend

So a clear need for educational support for the latter pupils.
