It's been a dramatic week: see pinned tweet.

Today I woke up bleeding. It's "that time" of the month again. Despite any conscious willing on my part, my female body persists in its cycles to which I must attend. My period is part of what makes me a woman: an adult human female.
I am extremely lucky. I have access to clean water and adequate products to respond to my body's needs.

Today I think of the women/girls who face period poverty, suffer in menstrual huts, who are not allowed to participate in public life because they are considered "unclean."
Globally,so many women still suffer monthly simply because they are experiencing existing while female. It's the hierarchies of societal gender projections which perpetuate the lie that periods are shameful of or something that should keep women from full participation in public.
In some countries girls miss school because of their periods, this is vital education that they are hindered from receiving because of their female bodies and because of poverty as well as the strict gender hierarchies under which they live.
I have a voice and the circumstances to be able to speak out about my uniquely female experiences. I speak for the women/girls who still experience regressive gender hierarchies from which they cannot escape. I hope to help dismantle these hierarchies so that women may be free.
