Black Marxism is a term that people use on here as if it describes a Marxist tendency like Leninism or Maoism but “Black Marxism” the text does not posit any such tendency/theory, only a critique of Marxism and it’s limitations in comparison to the Black Radical Tradition.
I want to know what people on here mean by “Black Marxism” when they talk about it as theory/practice because what Im gettin from the actual text is Marxism is not all that radical in the first place and Black folks got our own traditions of radicalism that are more comprehensive
Im also becoming increasingly aware that the Afropess critiques of Marxism that had folks up in arms on here not long ago were actually very mild, historically correct, and have been made by Black revolutionaries for years before “Afropessimism” existed as a coherent (meta)theory
Statements such as “Marxism has nothing to say for the Slave” or “Marx reproduces white supremacy” really should not be controversial among Black revolutionaries at all. The history is right there. Marx and Engel’s words and preoccupations and limitations are right there.
In Part 1 of Black Marxism, Robinson demonstrates how modern capitalism is a development of European society in which racial hierarchies are fundamental to civilization. In other words, racism precedes and produces modern capitalism, not the other way around. But folks in denial
In short...
