This is the “Fallacy of the Unknown” that pseudoarchaeology claims thrive on.

Let’s explore what’s really going on here! Come along on this 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 thread! 1/7 https://twitter.com/ancientaliens/status/1272952078432784384
Only 10% of Teotihuacan has been excavated they say, so what surprising discoveries might await us? I mean there could be ANYTHING in the rest of the sight! Right?!?! 2/7
Archaeology, like all social sciences, works on sampling strategies. There is no where near enough time or money in the ‘verse for us to excavate & analyze an entire site, so we take systematic samples.

And, after decades of research, those samples return consistent results. 3/7
Every excavation at Teotihuacan over more then 100 years has gradually revealed an incredible human made urban environment.

As many as 100,000 people lived in the city in a series of apartment complexes. Including ethnic Maya & Zapotec neighborhoods. 4/7

But, what about the rest of the site? Couldn’t it reveal unexpected surprises?

Sure, but if we make a systematic sample of 10% of a modern city and find it’s entirely populated and built by humans, why would we assume our sample missed a huge alien elephant? 6/7
#AncientAliens asks you the viewer to immediately throw humans under the bus.

Amazing buildings? Huge pyramids? Couldn’t be made by humans as claimed in indigenous histories and supported by decades of archaeological research. Must be 👽!

Don’t sell humans short! Fin
