Apologies in advance if the tone of this Tweet doesn't match my intent (been a long year), but...
For AT LEAST half my life, I've known about Juneteenth. A bittersweet day that is at once a celebration of liberation, but also a cold reminder that change comes slowly (if at all).

Black people are standing on the shoulders of GIANTS. Folks who despite the hate hurled at them, never cowered, never capitulated, never conceded defeat.
Folks that woke up every damn day working & hoping & praying for a better life for their kids (just like any American).
Folks that woke up every damn day working & hoping & praying for a better life for their kids (just like any American).
Folks that were segregated, incarcerated, demonized, dehumanized, & killed...Just for the "crime" of wanting the same rights as any other person that was born in the "Land Of The Free".
Not more. Not better. THE SAME.
Not more. Not better. THE SAME.
But while these folks (and like-minded allies) were working towards a better future, there has always been a segment of America unwilling to deal with the "Original Sin" of this country.
Slavery isn't some ancient act that no longer has teeth...

Slavery was & is one of the building blocks of America. Slavery (and it's tag-team partner, Bigotry) is as American as "Friends" & apple-pie.
And in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't even THAT long ago.
So, that being said...How do we move forward?

As I've said for the past month (and what feels like my whole life)...Can you just stop talking & judging & legislating & hating & "educating", and just LISTEN?
Listen to Black people...Especially Black women. Please.

This moment.
This "Floyd/Taylor/Brooks/Arbery/Martin/Garner/Bland/Castile/Till/Tulsa/Black kids being hung/Too many folks to name on top of a national health/economic crisis" moment is too fleeting to waste.
We can and MUST do better as a nation...It starts now.

Despite my cynicism, I still have hope for my people. Love for my people. Faith in my people...And "cautious optimism" for the rest of my fellow Americans.
This moment (like Juneteenth) may be coming FAR later than it should have...But I'm glad it finally seems to be here.

I think that's all I want to say, for now...Lol!
Hopefully I haven't pissed anyone off. But if I did, maybe ask yourself, "Why?". 'Preciate anyone who read the whole thing, & Happy Juneteenth!
