A Thread on Pakistani Mangos

There are about 1000 known varieties, ill talk about few grown in Pakistan.

Anwar Ratol

A small sized delight, with an average weight of 180 g; it has medium skin and is known for its fibre-less flesh, aroma and distinctly sweet taste (TSS 26-28%).
Anwar Ratol has its roots in a village two hours from Delhi, in what is now the Baghoat district of western Uttar Pradesh (UP) After partition in 1947, supposedly the grower planted the same variety in Southern Punjab and ever since this became national obsession.

#Mangos
It has 2 variants, Anwar Ratol harvested in (June/July) & Late Ratol (known as Late Ratol) credited to my Grandfather; harvested in (August).

Sindhri - The Honey Mango!

Leading variety from Sindh, Pakistan. It has a deep yellow thin peel and a distinct elongated and pointed curved shape with yellow color (ripe). It is medium sized mango, with an average weight of 600 g
known for its firm flesh, fibre-less flesh and smooth aromatic sweet taste (TSS 17-20%).

Origins in Mirpur Khas, Sindh and is harvested from mid-May to Mid July.

Chaunsa is also known as the King of Mangos, has many variant. I will discuss it’s three variants. To begin with Samar Behshet #Chaunsa, also known as Chaunsa is widely regarded as the best mango. Widely preferred by importers for its juice content & Pulp.

The interesting story attributed to its name is that Sher Shah Suri commemorating his victory over Humayun at Chaunsa, he gave his favorite mango the name Chaunsa. Chaunsa is a village in Malihabad Tehsil of Lucknow.
The quality parameters such as size, shape, color, total soluble solids (TSS), Total Sugar (TS), acidity, pH, physiological weight, juice, pulp and moisture content are important for the table purpose and value addition of mango fruit (Jha et al., 2008)
Samar Behshet is a medium sized mango, golden-yellow colour and is almost fiberless, Commonly available varieties in Pakistan are greenish-yellow. Characteristics that make it the King of Mangos are:

1. Rich Aroma
2. Juicy Pulp
3. Sweetness
4. Harvest Season: End June - August

Chaunsa has its roots in Sub continent
Found in India & Pakistan.

Areas in India: Kaimganj, Lukhnow and Varanasi

Pakistan: Multan, Saraiki Belt and Sahiwal

Total Soluble Solids (TSS): 14-15%
Total Sugar (TS) 20.4 %
