I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on this account before, but hi! I have ADHD. I found out last summer and I cannot understate how good it was to learn that. https://twitter.com/Finnattentive/status/1273533829475643393
I’m far from qualified to talk about ADHD in any way except to talk about my own experiences, but if “ADHD” makes you think of hyperactivity I’d recommend looking up “inattentive ADHD”.
Turns out there’s two types of ADHD (well, three, there’s also the “combined” type): Primarilt Inattentive and Primarily Hyperactive. Reading the symptom list for ADHD-PI felt like reading a description of my life.
Realising that I wasn’t “just lazy”, but there’s actually something different with my brain that makes certain things *way* harder was a massive relief.
Now, that doesn’t help as much when I have a bad brain day and all my executive function allows me to do is read Twitter/Slack/email from bed, but at least now I know why that is.
I also learned that the days when the hyper focus kicks in on something work-related and I accidentally work for 15+ hours and get several days of work done are not what I should consider “an average day”…
…I wanted more of a conclusion to this thread, but I put my phone down mid-thread because I got distracted by something else (😅), and now I can’t remember where I was going with it…
This is a good thread about what it’s like https://twitter.com/queenblitch/status/1274430561747111937
An analogy of sorts: You know when you’re focused on something at work and then a coworker comes over and asks you a question and it takes you a while to get back up to speed with what you did before you got interrupted?

Imagine your brain is interrupting you *all. the. time.*
