Pastor John Bisagno used to say, “If God’s people have all the info & sufficient time, they’ll make the right decision.”

The outgoing chairman of the EC operated by the antithesis of this during his tenure.

Here are some examples.
First, the “conservative” baptist division waited until the day AFTER the EC meeting to announce their leadership, revealing that the new officers that were nominated by the outgoing chair, who is also part of the division, are part of this new division.
This is an example of not giving God’s people all the info.
Also, it's not merely that he made nominations, which is entirely kosher, it's that he made the nominations against the nominations of the incoming chair, who is not part of the new division.

This is objectively suspect, especially after the division's leadership was announced.
Also, this morning the baptist division’s website was updated to show that the new Vice Chair is also part of the group.
Second, I made an amendment to a bylaw that was being discussed in Tuesday’s meeting that would have allowed us to have more time to nominate new chairs of committees, but I was ruled out of order because the amendment would have “substantially changed the bylaw.”
Now that we know that the outgoing chair is part of this new baptist division, was it “out of order” or did it threaten the timeframe God’s people would have had to patiently nominate new chairs?
There was literally no reason to rush the process, except to give the outgoing chair the opportunity to use his position to nominate people from the new baptist division.

This is an example of intentionally not giving God's people all the information.
What's more, I was told that adopting my amendment to wait to nominate new chairmans would be disrespectful to those who couldn’t make it to the meeting.
But, why was this not the case when the motion was brought to us in the midnight hour at the February meeting to investigate the ERLC?
That motion wasn’t even in our packets in leading up to the meeting, meaning not only did the people unable to make the meeting not know about it, but the people in the room didn’t either.
And it was tacked on time the very end of a long two days of meetings. And in executive session. And the ERLC representatives, who were in the room, weren't made aware of it.

This means God's people had a hard time making the right decision.
Honestly, it doesn’t even matter if you agree with the CBN or not, it’s just plumb unethical to operate with a clear agenda that serves purposes outside of the position you were elected to serve.

The members of the SBC deserve better.
