thinking about wrestlers and comedians being outed as creeps and how there's so much grey area between "spreading unsubstantiated rumors" and "being complicit"; it's hard to know ethically where the line is. at what point are you compelled to say something, and to whom?
there are a number of people in both wrestling and comedy that i probably would have vaguely warned my friends about if they were getting involved with those people. but idk if publicly saying "I've heard an unsubstantiated rumor about this person" does anything positive
I see people say "if you knew about this and didn't say anything, you're complicit", but it's not that simple. if it didn't happen to you and you don't know who it happened to, or you don't have permission from who it happened to to say anything, what is your responsibility?
louis ck was an open secret in comedy for years. my understanding is cosby was too. there are lots of other comics I've heard things about, but, just like when i heard about louis like 2 years into open mic-ing, I don't have anything other than green room talk to go on.
this kind of vague shit protects perpetrators but it also protects victims and falsely accused people. idk man!
