THREAD: AUT keeps claiming “the media” (they mean me) has got this story wrong, and that they conducted a full investigation. Yet they’ve admitted publicly all they did was read the complaint and talk to the alleged harasser Max Abbott 1/? https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/jun/18/australian-national-university-embroiled-in-harassment-claim-against-new-zealand-academic
2/ both things cannot be true at the same time. As Susan Hornsby-Geluk says in this story, a chat with the alleged perpetrator does not amount to a formal investigation https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/education/300033629/aut-toxic-culture-claims-harassment-ignored-at-university-for-decades
3/ they also keep insisting they have contacted ANU asking what next steps should be and haven’t heard back. It’s time for AUT to come clean on that one
The “next steps” they’ve proposed are things that might keep Marisa Paterson safe if she comes into contact with him in the course of her work
Paterson and ANU are refusing to respond to that because they are actions that should take place AFTER a full and fair investigation takes place
And ANU and Paterson do not believe that has happened
AUT also insist the 2013 complaint was “dealt with on the night” which we know is not true - Geoff Perry met with the student involved in the following week and promised further action, she says
