Women in entertainment tend to wanna be viewed as younger but I’m glad I’m 35 bc life experience has taught me the following (thread):

1. A legit meeting with an exec, agent, manager will take place at their office or at least a coffee shop, never over drinks or at a hotel lobby
2. An industry man who has never read/seen your work but offers to “help you” does not want to help you. Avoid.
3. If you are a female comic and a random straight male headliner asks you to go on the road, don’t. Especially if he’s not paying you money but offering you “experience.” You don’t need this experience.
4. You don’t need to work with creeps. People who make unwanted sexual comments, contact you off hours, touch inappropriately are not professional, and don’t believe they are the norm. They’re not.
If you are professional (competent, reliable, friendly) you will get jobs and referrals based on your work. You don’t need to party to network. Anyone who pressures you to do so, avoid.
6. If you‘re a female comic and the booker/club owner is being a creep, it’s ok to just leave. You’re not obligated to stay in a situation where you’re not safe. If they’re treating you bad, who cares if you burn that bridge cuz they’re not going to help you anyway.
