one of the many ways journalism grinds people down: certain issues are 'political' in ways others are not (to editors, bosses). eg it's a-ok to support cdn foreign policy but 'political' to point out that FP's body count https://www.chatelaine.com/opinion/racism-at-work/
whereas, for a journalist from/connected to any of the many countries where canada is terrorizing people, that body count might not only be an obvious fact, but also a direct threat.
not sure if i phrased that clearly. but the act of making some issues 'political' while considering others common sense or abstract is one of the ways white supremacy (&c) operates in media, in a way that's often undetected by the majority group in question.
i say this bc, having beliefs ('we shouldn't terrorize people') in conflict with that prevailing 'common sense,' i've noticed it 1sthand. it's so profoundly dispiriting. and yet i've never experienced seeing *my own* humanity called into question in that way. i can't imagine.
