Thread: (1) Seeing quite a few people losing their minds over the decision to change the Aunt Jemima logo and bottle. Liberal friends seem confused as well. I admit, I’ve never understood the need to make bottles into human and animal shapes.
(2) I still get the heebies when I see the bear shaped honey bottle. This is how Aunt Jemima actually came about.

You have to understand the history of how Christopher Rutt, the pancake formula owner came to the idea of using a black woman as the advertising campaign.
(3) In the late 1800’s, Rutt attended a vaudeville show where he heard a catchy tune called "Aunt Jemima" sung by a blackface performer who was wearing an apron and bandanna headband. He decided to call their pancake flour "Aunt Jemima."
(4) Anyway, Rutt was dead broke so he sold the formula to someone (I forget the name), who decided to seek out a black woman actress to play Aunt Jemimah. That became Nancy Green. The entire product is a made up construct from the late 19th century.
(5) So, aunt Jemima isn’t even a really person, she is and was a racist representation from the mind of a white guy, who liked a song in Blackface.

FUCKING BLACKFACE!

If that alone isn’t a reason to bin this shite, then nothing is. 🙄
