I first learned about structural racism as a student of #HipHop music and culture. My CD player was my classroom. The artists’ narratives offered a lens and a mirror to show where we are as a society and why. Whether or not you engage, #HipHop is a force to be reckoned with. -MH
My mentor @OlajideWill showed me how to use #HipHop to promote health in Black and Brown communities through our work at @HHPHorg. What I learned through this work is that #HipHop can effectively address all of the problems that plague our society. -MH
I believe deeply in the power of #HipHop to educate the masses. It can be leveraged to help dismantle the oppressive systems we are fighting. Today I am calling on members of the #HipHop community to use their unique gifts to heal us at this time. -MH https://charterforcompassion.org/introduction-to-the-third-edition-the-performing-arts-as-educator-and-healer/hip-hop-and-rap-as-art-and-as-an-agent-of-change-for-social-justice-and-political-reform
To the #HipHop artists that are up to the task: I know things are heavy for you right now, but we need you. Educate us. Inspire us. Hold us accountable. We need your messages of resistance, resilience, and hope. -MH
