Quick thread on an experience I had with $APPL services business. Relevant today given all the focus brought to this topic by @dhh

For many years I haven’t owned a laptop, so my iPhone is my only personal computing device. After much nagging from my brother, I decided to get a @YouTubeTV subscription
Downloaded the app on my phone and signed up for monthly payment plan using my phone. App starts working and all is fine. At this point 30% of the $39.99 monthly fee is going to $APPL with the rest going to $GOOG
A couple of weeks later I get a phone call from a weird CA number. I ignore it.
Get another call the next day, and this time I pick up

It’s <Felix> from $GOOG
He’s in customer service and he’s calling to check in on how my YoutubeTV subscription is going. Honestly, super unexpected. I assumed it was a scam

But after some back and forth, we confirm he’s actually calling from Google. We chat for 5-7 minutes about the product, what could be better etc.
As the call is ending, he makes a weird request: “Can you please cancel your subscription?”

I’m like wut
He’s like yes. If you cancel your subscription, and then re-sign up from a desktop computer, we’ll give you a $50 voucher. I didn’t want to deal with the hassle so didn’t do it

But these guys were persistent. Called again and again.
Then upped the bonus to $100 (that’s 4 haircuts btw @sarah_cone), so I was like fine you’ll have to call me back and walk me through the steps.
