. @nasw posted a picture of Tr*mp on their instagram YESTERDAY stating his executive order which calls for "more training" and adding social workers to police departments
This is ridiculous and insulting on many levels 1. Abolish Police is the only answer to dismantling the systemic problems within police departments 2. Social workers exist within the prison industrial complex and already operating/assisting within those depts.
3. Social work was formed within the ideas of white supremacy and therefore cannot dismantle a system that also upholds white supremacy without its own needed drastic systemic change
4. A great number of social workers (hi hello) do not want anything to do with "police reform" #AbolishThePolice means ABOLISH THE POLICE
. @nasw stated that they are "reviewing the executive order" but have not made an endorsement as of this tweet, however they have left the picture of Tr*mp up and have forgotten the importance of intent vs. impact
I am truly embarrassed that the professional organization that I belong to, which constantly purports upholding high ethical guidelines to not have a declarative statement on this awful executive order over 24 hours later.
