#MLawLoud - we can’t be trapped in our @UMichLaw quad bubble when so many of the important decisions about our futures are being made at the university level. (Thread). https://twitter.com/tayboltz/status/1273360067891519490
How could we ever trust this university to do right by sexual assault survivors when they ignored the many community members who spoke out about former provost Martin Philbert’s history of sexual misconduct before he was appointed? #MLawLoud
How can we trust this university to do right by any marginalized students when they place people like Philbert in positions of power? When we work to build relationships and trust with these people and then find out that they’re actually who we need to be afraid of #MLawLoud
When administrators at the law school fail us we’re supposed to be able to go to higher level officials to ask them to intervene. How can we do that when leadership from the top-down is complicit in silencing student concerns? #MLawLoud
I know I wasn’t alone in considering Philbert an ally. I can’t take back the time and energy I spent trying to communicate my concerns, ignoring my misgivings when he focused on my “eloquence” - worried even then he was using other students anger & passion to delegitimize their
Thoughts because they couldn’t communicate their concerns in a way that was palatable to him.

I know I wasn’t alone in feeling betrayed by this administration for appointing him despite his track record.
He was an ally to me. He listened. He amplified my concerns and bumped them up to the right people.

But it doesn’t matter that he listened to my concerns. He should never have been in that position. None of us should have had to put our trust in him. #MLawLoud
