so, just because I want this known: I am 100% I was blocked by Julie DiCaro because I was in an argument with Sheryl Ring where I said that MLB needs to have cultural sensitivity with how it approaches DV and Latin American players because Latin American culture =/= US culture.
That's also part of the reason I have Sheryl blocked (along with more reasons that hit a boiling point when I was in the hospital) -- she twisted my words to make it seem like I was saying that non-white players should get away with DV.

I was calling for cultural competency.
Julie was never even involved in the conversation and had unfollowed me at that point because I liked a tweet that she assumed was disparaging her.

Which she had DMed me about saying she was "disappointed in me."
The "disappointment" was stemming from that she didn't expect someone who "gave [me] my start in baseball writing" to turn against her.

Which, LOLOLOLOL.

Giving me an opportunity when I was 19 doesn't make someone exempt from criticism. Also, it wasn't really a "start."
I had already written FanPosts at McCovey Chronicles at that point and I was just like, "sure, I'll try for this."

This was spring of 2011 and I became their lead SF Giants writer.

But the expectations were absurd for what I was getting out of it.
It was expected that we had a game recap filed before the end of each day during the season along with aggregating news stories. Every day!

How much was I paid? $0.

"we will pay you all for sure eventually," everyone kept hearing.

I wrote there for two years. Total income? $0.
I had asked friends if they wanted to have a place to rant about the Giants' decisions if they wanted to help me with writing, but it was also because the daily demands for writing with zero pay was ridiculous and I burnt out constantly.
I mean, my choices were focus on school and being an editor at the student newspaper, which I was getting real experience from along with class credit that went toward my journalism minor and graduation as a whole, or writing daily game recaps for zero pay?
At that point, Julie was feuding with any writers who called her out on her shit. People quit all the time and she had a "me vs them" attitude about it. Anytime she was beefing with someone, there was this unspoken expectation we had to side with her always.
I actually recently found screenshots I took from the facebook staff group before Alerts Sports shut down that was calling Julie out on shit.

This one NHL writer was told to "take [her] 7th grade drama elsewhere."
There was supposed to be a site redesign and then out of the blue, she shut the site down. At that point, I was already so over it and I migrated the Giants' site to a wordpress URL and I just told my friends, "write whenever you want and don't feel like you HAVE to."
So, in short: Julie DiCaro was an incredibly shitty boss to work for; I did not get paid for two years of writing for her -- almost DAILY at one point; and she has a well documented history of anti-Blackness and general racism and blocked me bc she values white feminism the most.
