Oxford's Oriel College has recommended the removal of a controversial statue of Cecil Rhodes following an outcry over his links with Britain’s colonial past.

How many of the people campaigning against this little statuette are aware of the terms on which Rhodes established his scholarships? "No student shall be qualified or disqualified for election to a Scholarship on account of his race or religious opinions".
How many know that Rhodes was an early sponsor or Izwi Labantu, the newspaper of what was eventually to become the ANC? How many know that he campaigned against taking the vote away from black men in Cape Colony?
